Change of hosting
Mar 24, 2009 - 12:08 PM - by Spree
Just to let you know, the forum might be down for a short while this afternoon. Because this site and BikerHolic are getting so popular I have had to change over to better hosting (VPS for the techies )to allow for the massive amount of bandwidth being used lately.

Hopefully this transition will be short but if not, please bear with me.

Forum Sigs and other stuff

Sig banners

I have noticed that the sig banners are starting to grow again. The maximum size allowed has to be no bigger that the official ones. This means that everyone can display a maximum size of 350px by 150px plus a bit of text if you want or need to.

Two reasons for this;
  1. Every time a page is loaded, it uses bandwidth that I have to try to keep under control to try to keep my costs down.
  2. Its starting to look like a wall in an infant school art class. For me personally I find it distracting and a few threads I have just not bothered to read because it looks crap.
Topic hijacking

This has started to become an issue again with all and sundry completely taking threads "off topic". What happens then is that anyone that has searched for something and has arrived here through the search engines hoping to find some useful info ends up reading something completely unrelated. I don't know about anyone else but this seriously pisses me off and I personally end up going elsewhere and that includes this forum .

If you have something relevant to add to a topic then by all means reply, if you don't then please don't post something just for the sake of it.

Topic titles

When starting a thread, please try to be specific with the title of it. Things like "help needed" are a waste of space. What does it mean? that youre stuck on a mountain, your bike has broken down? I have spent hour upon hour optimising this forum for the search engines and this sort of thing just completely wastes all the work I have put into it.

So please try to think about this when starting a thread becaus this is what shows up in google and also makes this forum one of the highest rated for SEO.

I will allow a week for these changes to filter in but after that myself and the other admins will be deleting any thread or sig banner that doesn't comply.

Just to let you all know, the forum is now taking up a lot of time to admin. I don't have the time to do this at the moment due to other commitments so Stroppybitch has agreed to take on the role of Mod for the site.

She was one of the early members and apart from a while where she couldnt access the web, she has been one of the most regular members signing on here on a daily basis.

The reason I chose SB is mainly because of her approach to others and she now also gives us a balance with 2 male and 2 female Admins.

I'm sure you will give her all the support she needs in the early days and remember that the admins on here give their time voluntarily and willingly.

Welcome in Stroppybitch

Because the Christmas season is almost here, I thought I would get in first

For me personally this year has been a bit of a trial health wise but the forum and all the members on it has been a great help in getting through it.

We have a certain member, Manky Cat, that is now going through something similar to myself. He's a strong lad and has a lovely outlook on life and with the support of his friends, namely Scudnut and his partner John I'm sure that he will come out of all this like a new man. A nicer guy I honestly can't recall meeting. My thoughts are with him and John and I am sure that we are all feeling the same way.

Anyhow thats the emotional shit out of the way. On this forum we have such a diversity of people. From new riders to police officers and hells angels. This is what makes the forum as enjoyable to be a member of as it is.

Next years meet ups seem to be going along fine and we have a lot to look forward to with Gary Dawson and Team Replicast next year. If you havent been to a meeting yet then you really are missing something. With Ben and Adam spearheading the assault on next years British GP we really do have something to look forward to for 2009 because Gary is really pushing to win it and with our support and the ability within the team he wont go far wrong.

Many thanks from me personally go to the Admin team of (in no particular order ) Rerb, Druidsam and Grotbag who have done a fantastic job while I have been focussing on other projects.

I want to remind ALL members that they do this without financial reward and in their own time and I am sure you will agree that they do a fantastic job, so if you have any grievances then you need to come through me

A special mention for Jonny and phil for all their hard work with the T shirts. They did this off their own backs and without any prompting and deserve a big slap on the back for all their efforts.

One other thing that stands out is singh600rr, as far as I am aware, he's the only Asian biker on here - why?? is he the only Asian guy that rides a bike in this country? Anyway I feel priveledged to have him as a member on our forum but I wish there were more diversity from othe ethnic groups.

Well thats enough waffling from me apart to wish each and every one of you a very Merry Xmas and a prosperous new Year. In fact I feel so good that I am now going to lift AndyR's ban - Sorry GB, one day to go
