Re: Poor condition of UK Roads

I know that this will go down like a lead balloon but I think that they should abolish the road tax and add it to petrol.

The more you ride / drive, the more you pay.

Why? coz it would catch all of the car road tax dodgers and it also really get's my goat that people who travel 1,000's of miles up and down the country every week, who contribute more to road damage / wear and tear, pay the same price for their car road tax as the like of me.

Some time's my mind doesn't only wander, it leaves completely ...........

NO NO NO NOim paying £5.80 a gallon for diesel, if it goes up much higher i will have to seriously consider getting rid of the car..if they used the road tax money for roads instead of wasting it on other stuff then we would all have good roads to ride/drive on

That's the Government plan, keep the rich on the road being able to buy expensive C02 savers, enjoying less busy roads resulting in less repairs, solving environmental issues and make the less well off use cycles and walk, their problem solved.....

Re: Poor condition of UK Roads

If you think it's bad down your way you should try riding or driving in Lanarkshire (Scotland).... I've seen better roads in the third world. Go for an MOT Test here and you can be sure to be told you need new shocks, steering joints, wheel bearings or
whatever. I had a broken spring on my not very old car last year and I've seen two cars have concussion burst punctures just near my house.....one was an unfortunate lady who had a puctured spare wheel . I took pictures of the offending pothole and encouraged her to claim damage from the council. Fortunately for me I live just near the Border Region so I ride carefully until I reach their excellent roads

Re: Poor condition of UK Roads

I've noticed that if there's one time when all members agree, it's when we recognise that we're being screwed by the present ( and to a slightly lesser extent the previous ) government. It pains me to say this, but even the French ( whats the difference between the French and a piece of toast - you can make soldiers out of a piece of toast ) have more balls than us when it comes to the crunch. Surely we should be following suit?! There were fuel protests when the litre broke 90p, now it's 130p+ and nowt seems to be happening!! Instead of a go slow by lorries, we should have a go super slow on our bikes.
