Sat Nav

Sir manky Cat is coming over on Friday and I'm showing him some nice Surrey riding roads, Chertsey, Ascot, Sunningdale, Windsor, Maidenhead etc. I would love to be able to plan a route in advance as the time between rush hours down this way are not that great on a Friday.
I can use the Sat-nav but only until the internal battery runs out.
Can I get some sort of adaptor fitted so I can use the cigar lighter or USB plugs supplied with my sat-nav power cable?

While we are on this subject how long are manufacturers going to persist with the cigar lighter plug? It's virtually illegal to smoke in any vehicle now.
Maybe the new standard socket will be bike friendly, usb maybe?

You can buy kits for bikes to hard wire a cig lighter socket ( Maplins/Halfords etc). I occasionally have a works lorry where the socket doesn't work, and I've found that by turning off the background illumination on the sat nav I can get a full days use out of it.

Re: Sat Nav

Is it a bike dedicated GPS Scudnut? If not, you could also look to see if they do a bike mount for it. I bought the Garmin Zumo last year at what seems a ridiculous price now (Im sure the shop made a cockup). I have only just fitted it to the bike last week and it works great. I have wired it sirect to the battery for now but will be wiring it up to an ignition controlled feed soon.

Re: Sat Nav

Like Spree Ive got a Garmin Zumo and its great!

or use something like this
Maplin > GPS Extension Cable for Lighter Socket
and simply cut the plug off it and then direct wire it to your battery (with an inline fuse of course)
