I also purchased some special wide wheels for a friends bike from the US with a cost of around $1,300 these should have been heavily taxed by UK customs and you pay the extra to the delivery service when they arrive or the delivery company will not release until you settle in full, my mate and I expected this, but on arrival they slipped through the customs with no extra cost and my mate was well happy. Its all the look of the draw, I've paid duty on parts costing only £70 but some more expensive items I didn't pay any, you can ask the sender to put as a (GIFT) on the package, this sometimes works, but if checked by our customs and they think its not a gift they will charge you duty, and nothing you can do about it. Like I said mainly look of the draw, some you win, some you loose. Last edited by Rocks : 06-18-2008 at 08:11 PM. Reason: I cant spell for toffee, how the hell do you spell dislexia

| Re: buying parts from usa it seems that if its one item of less than £36 you dont pay anything, but there is nothing to say what would be payable for 7 items with a value of less than £36 ( 1 pipe 2 bolts and 4 washers)..looks like its going to be easier to pay the rip off uk price ![]() ........................Sam |

| Re: buying parts from usa I'm sure if you paid less than £36.00 for a total of 7 items, you will pay no duty, and if they mark them as a gift, with anything marked as a gift or not marked under £70 I've never paid duty. |

| Re: buying parts from usa I used to work at ParcelForce, and it's luck of the draw which parcels you'd have to pay for. Not every parcel is checked, and I'd say about 3/4 of the parcels did not have duty to pay upon delivery. Putting 'gift' on the parcel just meant there was more chance of the item being opened and checked by customs, they check the invoice, slap on the duty and their fee, then ParcelForce would bang on their 'clearance' fee. A company wouldn't put 'gift' on your parcel anyway. You pays your money, you takes your chance! |

Gift's are not taxable however, if caught with something gifted from a comercial seller you can be prosecuted. If it's stopped and checked, you then have to pay extra postage to receive it. I've been collered quite a few time's with things from ebay.com If the value is over £18 Sam add extra shipping fee's plus another 30% and if it still works out cheaper than buying from the UK - go for it!!
