Advice on softening glove leather please?

Hi all

Well, the kit's all bought - got a nice textile armoured jacket, a Caberg helmet (I reckon the internal tinted visor will be helpful as I wear glasses), and some decent boots.

I've also bought a good pair of gloves, however as with most new leather things they're pretty stiff, and I'd like to get them a bit more flexible before my CBT on Saturday.

Does anyone have any suggestions for ways of breaking them in and softening them a bit before use?

Thanks in advance

Neil

I use fish oil, but I have had it for years so don't have a clue where you can get it from now. I have heard good reports of some sort of beeswax from Alpinestars too.

Neetsfoot Compound available at saddlers/harness makers/agricultural merchants. I use it on my leathers it, (up to a point) waterproofs and softens leather.

The only thing to be wary of when using this is that it can rot some kinds of stitching just the same as saddle soap does so read what it says on the tin.

Re: Advice on softening glove leather please?

Thanks for the advice.

You'll all be delighted to know that I've been the cause of much hilarity for Mrs Dungeekin, who finds it highly amusing to see me sitting in front of the telly with my gloves on, flexing away merrily....

(that sounds much ruder than it actually is....)

Re: Advice on softening glove leather please?

I'm sure I read somewhere that cowboys used to soak their boots in water (boots/gloves, almost the same eh?), then put them on, and not take them off until they were bone dry, thus ensuring a perfect, worn in fit. Or was that what you did with jeans????? I'd do some research before trying this, I could be right on the boots thing, or maybe I just dreamed about it!
