No sense, no feeling.

It appears a significant minority of bikers have total lack realisation when their bike has developed a problem that would make most of us not ride it, fix the problem, or trailer it to the mechanic.
The workshop that services my wife and I's bikes has had some fine examples lately. One bike was ridden to the workshop with a flat front tyre, and brake pads worn so thin they had dropped out of the calipers and were jammed between the discs and the calipers.

Re: No sense, no feeling.

It's not really a new thing Papa, some people have always ridden death traps.

It does make me cringe at times how certain folk have no fear for their own mortality

It's a good job the "significant minority" don't seem to be members here, anyone with a problem (I hope) doesn't feel worried about raising it.

And thanks to the good members for being so helpful

Re: No sense, no feeling.

unfortunately its not just bikers that do this as i have seen cars being driven on flat tyres,exhaust pipes dragging along the road and a host of other defects that a blind man couldnt miss. maybe these people need help getting dressed the mornings as well....i like to keep an eye on everything on the bike and if something doesn't feel/look/sound right , it gets investigated..

Amazing how if you have bike from new that deterioration creeps up on you and sometimes it needs someone else to point out the problems

Totally agree - that is why i have a friend (experienced biker) ride mine once in a while

I'm not a bike mechanic but i still remember my instuctor telling me to remember the phrase BESTCOPS

B = BRAKES - check daily
E = ELECTRICS - check lights, indicators, horn, switches, cut-out
S = STEERING - is it free? any noises?
T = TYRES - pressures, wear and tear, nicks, chunks, depth
C = CHAIN - check freeplay, rust, tighten, lubricate
O = OIL - check regularly
P = PETROL - got enough?
S = SUSPENSION - check settings and load

I know this is alot to do daily - so i try and do it weekly.

Honda CBR 600RR and proud!!

That does not cover the eventuality of something drastic happening when you are riding the bike, when most of us would stop straight away, try and find the rattle, knock, graunch was coming from and sort out the problem out or get the bike trailered to a mechanic.

Like you I am truly appalled by this situation.. That a mechanic should discuss one customers vehicle with a 3rd party is wholly unprofessional, and to do it in such a derogatory way is absolutely awful..

go on smurf name and shame him
