| pillions ??? dont read if you get upset easily re my post in this thread Kids as pillion passengers this is the reason i left bikes . now i posted this,, and ex-manx asked ........ Quote:
let me explain, and i will apologise now to anyone who may get upset my last accident was a bad one.. roll back a few years.. me and my mate sean were in a local pub.. i,m on coca- cola coz i,m on the bike.. i offered him a lift home. leaves pub about 9.30pm . we are both sober, ( i only drink coke or orange juice+ lemonade when i,m on the bike. ) heading back thru loddon and a left hand bend that we have taken 100,s of times approaches , then i hit the fox we came off the glide, and hit a wall at about 50 mph .. unfortunately the bike also hit sean as we slid into the wall a friend of mine since schooldays , he passed away instantly due to a broken neck i, was left with 2 broken arms, broken hip, collarbone and 4 pins in my legs . nothing compared to the pain i felt 2 days later when my wife told me about sean. broke my heart..literally. ![]() so now i dont carry pillions, tho i am glad that i am back on a motorcycle again.. there was no malice, seans parents and i are still in touch, in-fact they treat me like the son the,ve lost . we were mate,s , we rode together, drank together , and knew each other inside out . again i apologise for any upset, i just needed to let this out, as i am genuinely enjoying this forum, jim | |

| Re: pillions ??? dont read if you get upset easily Sorry to read that Harley, but good you can share it - I kinda know how it feels As Ive posted before, I lost my partner four years ago in a bike accident (she was pillion, I was riding) and I was heartbroken and still miss her. Like you Im back on bikes now and love it but will not carry pillions, purely for that reason. Im doubly lucky - Im riding again and Ive got Maccymoo, but I worry like hell every time she goes out for a bike lesson (which is bloody hypocritical as I ride I know but I still do it .......)Good to have you here mate |

| Re: pillions ??? dont read if you get upset easily I am so sorry to hear that Harley that is tragic. I have thought long and hard about my kids going on bikes. I have been around them all my life and have always loved them. Have been off a few times, fortunately only minor events....would never put them on the back of me. Not enough experience. My youngest goes out for short rides with her dad. I have wrapped her in cotton wool since she was tiny becuase she nearly never made it, but she loves the bike and I am reluctant to stop her doing something she loves so much. I know you can never plan for the unexpected but I spend my life being governed my rules and regulations in childcare and sometimes think we are taking away our children's childhood, because we are terrified of letting tham doing anything in case they get hurt....even down to having to risk assess a trampoline and not letting them on it in case they get injured. I want her to grow up with a healthy respect for bikes than if she wants one when she is older she can learn to ride herself instead of going out on the back of some nutter like I did |

| Re: pillions ??? dont read if you get upset easily cheers peeps.. gotta admit, it,s good to share.. tho it did make me think, so after a phone call , i,ve been out today and met up with mel, ... (seans sister ..who i,ve also known for the last 30 odd years) we talked, had a laugh about some of the reckless and downright stupid things we used to get up to , and she assues me that NO-ONE in her family holds me to blame.. they all acknowledge it was purely an accident, and that i would never of deliberatly hurt him. and after a bottle of wine and lunch , we left each other, and i have an invite to the family BBQ next month . I have no probs with peeps taking thier kids..or anyone else pillion, but just remember that you are in control off thier destiny . so ride safe, please now enough off my morbid ramblings.. lets get back to the affair of ripping the piss outta each other ! ![]() off we go !!! ![]() many thanks for listening... ta ..
