Daytime Lights ? Whats your view? As mentioned in a reply, have had this on another forum. So, was wondering what the consensus was here? Do you use head light during the day, or sides, main beam or no lights, also whats your reasoning/ logic behind it , if i can find it i will copy an article by a police bike instructor from another forum later to explain the reasoning/ decision making we should all be making. So to start off, me personally, , i use NO daytime lights, EXCEPT in conditions of reduced visibility ie rain; fog etc etc when i use dipped beam, my logic is that car drivers do NOT look to see me regardless of light/ no lights, also they are all out to get me, so therefore if i ride in invisible mode, i can ride past without them puling out on me etc,,, so far i have only ever been cut up/ almost broad sided from lane changes where drivers fail to use mirrors/ chech blind spots ergo lights would make No difference. So , whats your usual routine with lights, or opinion, and logic behind it?

Re: Daytime Lights ? Whats your view? Not to sure of the reasoning with lights other then to say if I'm lit up like a christmas tree with my lights on (normal beam & side light) and the added bonus of long sleave hi vis, more people see me then don't and will quit often give me space to pass e.t.c I definately feel safer....

Re: Daytime Lights ? Whats your view? I ride with dipped headlights normally and switch to high beam when filtering through traffic. My view is that you need all the help you can get to be visible to boxed morons. I am also reasonably sure that a bobby once told me that if you are involved in an accident and you are wearing hi viz gear then the likely outcome in court would be in your favour if there was a dispute to liability. Could be wrong there but I am pretty sure thats what was said to me a while ago ![]()

Re: Daytime Lights ? Whats your view? My bike is like a lot of bikes and as no option, my side lights and headlight come on when the bikes starts, no option to turn off, only up to main beam.

Re: Daytime Lights ? Whats your view? I allways ride with my lights on dipped beam dosen't stop car drivers cutting you up or pulling out on you though but does help in the event of an accident hopefully which will never happen but these days riding a bike its all near misses and close shaves sometimes wonder how i managed to get home from work in one piece

Re: Daytime Lights ? Whats your view? Dipped headlights because as mainly a car driver, I pick up on bikers with lights on than those without. you may find others opinions in this thread Less Chance Of Getting Wiped Out!?

Re: Daytime Lights ? Whats your view? dipped headlight because traffic in front is more likely to see you approach, at least that how i notice most bikes when im in the car, i can always tell their headlight before i can see its a bike ![]() .............................Sam

Re: Daytime Lights ? Whats your view? I use dipped myself, i think main beam would probably pi$$ a few car drivers off and I don't want to do that whilst vunrable (spell-check). i saw something interesting the other day, while sitting still (as usual) on the M25 in my truck. Something caught my attention in my mirror, it was a bike filtering, what caught my attention was his light switching to and fro between dip and main, what a bloody good idea I thought, don't know if he was switching himself or if it was auto.

Re: Daytime Lights ? Whats your view? On the fazer you have no chioce, you cannot turn off the lights, and you have to have dipped beam on. ![]() On the lav I turn on dipped beam in traffic,or if it's raining etc, and tend to turn it off when on quieter roads and in good weather.. I believe that there are stats from countries in which it it compulsory for all vehicles to have dipped beams on that it does reduce accident rates..
