Guy's can anyone explain why L-Plates are needed today? I mean it's not like the sixties when there was fewer vehicles on the road and people may have been a bit more polite and actually "backed off" thinking "ooh, that rider is an inexperienced learner, i'll give him/her a bit of space". The only reason I can see is for the Blue Meanies to nick and fine people. E.g on my last bike car driver's took absoloutley no notice (it's every man for himself) I got stopped because my front one had come away and got a warning, conversley a young lad I know had only one on too, he got a fine and lost three point's. Personally it doesn't bother me having them, I just want to know is there a point? (P.s Thanks for the tip's Grots and Scudnut.

Re: L - Plate's What's The Point? Personally I'm (at this point in time) quite happy to have my 'L' plate on, I want other road users to know I'm inexperienced and make appropriate allowencies, which to date they have ( except effing tractor drivers and effing double decker busses )When I'm driving I always make allowences for both the red and green 'L' plated cars and bikes. I feel that without them, learners (or those riding /driving on 'L's) would be subject to those knobheads road ragers who dont make allowences for learners mistakes ............... just my own opinion ![]()

Re: L - Plate's What's The Point? Whoa, you read me wrong. I don't mind having them, I know it's the law, but it's just that sometimes I don't think they make any difference at all as car drivers, lorry's, bus driver's generally don't seem to respect the fact that I am a novice, and the police just seem to target youngster's a lot more sam.....With L-plate I mean.
