Gear Indicators

Why dont bikes have an indication display as to what gear your in? Or do the newer bikes generally have a display? It doesnt bother me but I have heard some new starts complaining about it.

Pain is great. It lets me know I am alive.

Re: Gear Indicators

Most bikes don't have them fitted as standard but there are aftermarket gizmo's available.

You get used to the gearing anyhow after a short while just the same as you do in a car

Re: Gear Indicators

Coming up to a stop do you go down each gear and let out the clutch down another etc or just drop down through with the clutch in?

Re: Gear Indicators

Right or wrong, I just kick down with the clutch in several gears depending on the situation!!

I'm finally getting used to what gear I'm in without an indicator too, found it hard at first but find I'm keeping a mental note of my gear without realising, which is pretty cool!

Re: Gear Indicators

I find myself forgetting what gear I'm in, especially approaching junctions and roundabouts.

That said, the Marauder is tractable enough that when I cock up and try to take a roundabout in third - or even fourth - it'll at least get around it!

Re: Gear Indicators

As nerdy as it sounds, I just listen to the engine! if it sounds like it needs to go down a gear, down it goes - 1/4 the time I don't even know what gear I'm in!!! :-)
