Helmets Again

Should I hold off on buying a helmet to when I am buying a bike. Would you get a good deal if buying with a bike or is there no point even haggling. I have been trying on different makes to get a fit the feels good on me. I am liking the feel of the Arai but the padding seems really snug should there be much movement or do you want it flush around the face and head?

Pain is great. It lets me know I am alive.

Re: Helmets Again

theres loads of great deals on helmets, just check the rating first, it should not be loose on your head, as the padding inside will give a little after a while, ive just bought a new AGV it was very tight for the first day, but now its great, snug with no movement

Re: Helmets Again

Indie's right, a new helmet should be on the tight side of comfortable as it will give. A good test is to place you're hands in the middle of the rear of the helmet and push forward this pressure should give you an idea how much the helmet will give. Also remember that a smaller helmet usually just has more padding (most companies use the same shell for all sizes) so they tend to give a little more.

Re: Helmets Again

As above and try a few different makes too. I liked the Shark, AGV and Arai helmets but they didn't feel comfortable enough so I ended up with a Shoei.

There are loads of makes and prices to suit all budgets so take your time trying them out.

Re: Helmets Again

Mines an arai..fits like a glove and is very light. Padding will give but don't get anything that feels too tight. Had an ogk aeroblade that I could never wear in and it gave me horrible headache after a while.
Have had shoei, lasers, cabergs...all good helmets. Think it depends on the shape of your head.

J & S have a great range of almost every model so try them all on

Niki & Gaz

Monday morning..........let the stress begin !!

Re: Helmets Again

I've never owned a helmet that doesn't make my right ear hurt after a couple of hours, but maybe I've got a funny shaped head. Yup it's gotta be snug at 1st, but you need to try on all makes, 'cos some helmets def fit 'squarer' ( like mine ) heads. I've got a Caberg, which was the comfiest helmet for me ( well, for under £150 anyway ) It's also got a flip down visor which is great this time of year.

Re: Helmets Again

I had a couple of Cabergs then tried the Shoei Multitech which fitted perfect. After a wearing it a few times it started feeling sloppy. I sent away for new cheek pieces of a different size and it is fine again. So it would seem that if the basic lid is not suitable you can customise it to fit.

Re: Helmets Again

Me and my oldest son both have Shark helmets in the same size but as they are different models from the same manufacturer, we cant wear each others as the fit is very different. When I bought mine I tried on every helmet style from Arai, Shoe, Shark, AGV, Roof and a couple of others stocked by Hein Gericke and Midland Superbikes. Some helmets felt wrong straight away and some started to feel tight after 10 mins. It took ages in the shops but they left me to it until I had found a couple I liked and then they advised me on which fitted best in their view.
