3 Types of Bike Your personal views and comments on any 3 types of bike including the ilk you ride (or are planning to ride). 1. Custom. A year ago I'd never of seen me riding a Marauder and I doubt very much that I'll progress to a big cruiser. I have really been please with this bike though, not the fastest but I can definitely live with that while I'm still learning. It gets a lot of attention, probably too much for a 125 and I do actually smile when I'm riding it. 2. Sports. Well they don't really float my boat and they're probably way too fast for me but I truly believe that bike design is a form of art and there are some fantastic looking sports bikes around. I have also started watching a little bike racing, get that knee down son. ![]() 3. Trials/Adventure Now this is me (I think ).Cleaning it, your joking, they look just as good dirty. ![]() The best bike I've had by far was the KMX, sheer fun, I like the elbows out riding style, I like to be higher up, If I do the test next year my plan at the moment is to move on to an Africa Twin or the like. Over to you guys...

Re: 3 Types of Bike Hmm......my Tiger 1050 doesn't really fit in any of your categories. It's what I would call an 'all rounder'. A mix of naked / sports tourer / giant trail with a bit of supermoto styling The new Tiger can still do some light off-road stuff but is definitely more road biased. It can scratch, tour and commute. It's got that grin inducing 1050 triple motor where the power and torque is just where it's needed and it sounds wonderful (especially with the baffles removed from my Campbell Sidewinder exhaust) ![]()

Re: 3 Types of Bike This could end in a flame war....lol ![]() Sports... I never really intended to get a sports bike, until buying the Laverda, I had nothing similar. As anyone who has met me will know I ain't exactly built for a pocket rocket!! And then not doing it by half I pick something which has no compromise..As a toy it's great, but it needs lots and lots of tlc, and is tiny, uncomfortable and a nightmare in town... but grin factor 11 when out on the open road... can't wait till she is back. traditional/commuter Most of the bikes I have owned or ridden have fallen into this category. I had a silver xj600 which I used everyday for years, for every purpose, which only went coz the Mrs insisted on a car when firstborn came along (although she was still on the back at 6 months gone)... I will be buying something in this group when the Fazer has to go back to the insurance, as a workhorse.. (anyone know of a 600/4 in this style for a grand then pm me).. If i ruled the world then once anyone passed DAS then a couple of years hacking around on a 10 yo 400 bandit would be compulsory.. ![]() Custom/cruiser... Sorry to all you out there that ride customs but sorry your all wrong wrong wrong well for riding the north wales twisties anyway. I have only ridden one once, a friends VN800 intruder..and whilst it's prolly a bit unfair to generalize It was horrible..maybe in another 30 years.. but to me handling is the most important factor and you can't argue with geometry.. Sorry but scud did ask Sorry no offense meant ![]() Last edited by jonnywombat : 07-13-2008 at 06:48 PM.

Re: 3 Types of Bike It's cruiser for me, I simply don't like the sportier bikes. I'm more for the enjoyment of the ride than the rush of speeding along but that's what makes us all different, we all want different things from our rides. At the end of the day it's down to personal opinions and personal choice.

Re: 3 Types of Bike This will be an interesting thread! Well, I've currently got a Marauder - mainly because the Varadero was too big, and the CBR125 too delicate for a 15-stone bloke. I love it, but the next bike will be a commuter/sports tourer type. I'm thinking SV650, GS500F or a Fazer - something a bit fun, but not completely insane. Neil

Re: 3 Types of Bike Custom not my cup of tea maybe when im older don't bother with the retro style bikes they don't offer much protection, use to find i would get battered about everywhere in the wind and on the motorways i like the sports tourers comfortable to ride great for commuting and offer better protection from the weather

Re: 3 Types of Bike Sports - Probably the same as a lot of riders my age, I would love to have a 1098 or similar in the garage to play with but I couldn't put up with the riding position for too long before the aches and pains begin to set in. I run the Blackbird mainly because it suits what I want to do with it, i.e. high speed touring with luggage and pillion. Cruiser - Not a great fan of this type of bike because of the handling characteristics. Some of them look really nice, especially the custom ones. I do like the Harley Fat Bob and was reasonably impressed when a guy came with us for a spin over the mountain circuit so that particular bike could be a possibility. The other one in this category that catches my eye is the Triumph Rocket III - very fast in a straight line ![]() Big Trailie - This is the bike I would probably change the Blackbird for when the time comes. I like the R1200GS a lot, having ridden one for a reasonable time. Jumping on one after the Blackbird was like firing a tractor up but the handling is as good as any bike I have ridden, if not better and the position is very comfortable with a great view of the road ahead. The other option for me would be an FJR1300 or similar.
