Re: Another sad weekend for Squires

Its a bit like the IOM then - watch the races, shit talk about how good they are then push themselves beyond their limits on the road. Some live to tell the tale but some don't

I read that smoking weed destroys your brain cells - so I gave up reading

Re: Another sad weekend for Squires

hmm, was planning a trip upto squires with a biker friend. It sounds as though those roads need to treated with alot of respect and caution.

RIP bikers.

its more likely they'll introduce some road safety measures than close the cafe, though they may like to move it to the other side of sherburn.
Doubt they will move it...cost £450,000 to get the owners to move it out of the village when they moved it a few years ago. Nobody's that bothered if the bikers are getting killed, apart from the bikers, and the drain on SY police resources ...it was the residents in sherburn who were not happy before, now it's not such a problem for them.

They will probably up the police presence like they have at wetwang. That's had a big effect on bringing down the accident rate and they are getting good results.
So watch out for the Hyabusa, which has cameras on it, the BMW and the Subaru... all unmarked and waiting

Re: Another sad weekend for Squires

Not wishing to sound controversial but bikers can be their own worst enemies in terms of speeding. We travel frequently along a road that goes from Bolton near Manchester up to the M65 through the villages of Belmont and Abbey. On a Sunday it is a very popular route to Rivington and the attitude of some bikers on that road is on occasions beyond belief. I have personally seen two abreast overtaking on a double white line and frequently bikes travelling at estimated speeds of 90 - 100mph.
Hey - Biking is the last great freedom but it aiin't worth dying for surely?? Not wanting to sound churlish or holier than though and of course a sports bike is bought for fast adreniline rush riding but you don't want to die for gods sake.

I've ridden this road dozens of times, yes it's not the easiest road to ride, but that's where common sense comes in. Ride like there's a brick wall round every corner ( or a tractor with the spikes on front ) if it's not a clear line of sight..... I've seen how a lot of riders set off from the cafe, way too fast, on cold tyres, it's so easy to lose it. Mind, a lot of the accidents are down to drivers as well. Maybe a lot more signs warning of heavy motorcycle use would help? Also, I think this is one place that could be more heavily patrolled by the police, in a bid to slow it down a bit, instead of them sitting 1/2 way down a 2 mile straight on a safe road grabbing revenue.

If you want to have a ride out there when it's steady and not too busy, Tuesday and Thursday evenings are ok and Saturdays.
Wednesday is manic especially if it's sunny - have been there when bikes have been queing to get in. Sundays and Bank holidays, if the sun is out, are the same.

Go steady, stick to your side of the road and watch for w***ers coming the other way

Cheers Nicki

Was gonna call on the way back from Lincoln but as Mr H was in the huff (me too) I decided to find my own way round York at 5.30 and ended up going round the inner ring road so by the time I got out of there everything ached and I was kinda sick so just headed down the A19 home It was funny though we haven't got intercom thingys but he heard me telling him to F**k off going over the last roundabout everythings rosy in the garden now though

Re: Another sad weekend for Squires

It is always sad to hear of any death involving a Biker on any road, as it reminds you of your own mortality.

Ride your own ride within your skills levels and if you are having an off day stop... Stay Safe, friends.
