Ooooops

Has any one else ever gone to lube their chain without really looking at the can?
I can see it being possible to pick up a can of black 'very high temperature' paint instead of Wurths chain lube, and not realising until you've fully 'lubed' your chain. I'm not saying I did this, but hypothetically, if I did, would thinners remove the paint completely or would the chain be f*&^%d?
O.K. so I did do it, but the chain looks o.k. now.

Well, you never know, maybe it'll turn out that VHT paint makes yer chain last longer than chain lube alone!??????? If so, you heard it here 1st! ( Maybe no-one should try this till I've seen if my chain cracks/snaps/explodes/implodes in the next week! )

Re: Ooooops

I would think that if the chain had been reasonably lubricated prior to this incident, then very little paint would have stuck, I would think a good clean with paraffin or something similar might sort it out.
Good luck!

Re: Ooooops

As long as you got it off before it fully dried out then it will probably be fine as long as it hasn't damaged any seals.

It's funny you say that, 'cos last week I did go to specsavers, got my eyes tested and got my specs last Thursday! It wasn't down to my eyesight though, the missus 'tidied' up the garage and put things in different places. There! 100% her fault, the stupid &*%$.

be very careful with the chain and try to remove the paint with out using any solvents as this can damage the o rings which i would imagine you have.like another member has stated ,if your chain had plenty of chain wax on previously a little wd40 should lift the lube off with most of the paint.
