Motorcycle hazard warnings

Hey guys, I was just wondering what you do to let other motorcyclists know of upcoming hazards?

I'd never thought about it before, but today coming up the A30 I saw a police car hiding in the bushes (speedtrap) and a little further along the A30 was a motorcyclist. Obviously I wanted to warn him, the only signal I could think of giving was using my hand, horizontal and moving up and down (the 'slow down' signal that pedal cyclists and cars use) to indicate the hazard.

I hope the guy knew what I meant Is there any given set of signals for this type of thing?

Just noticed that I call police speedtraps hazards, heh.

Thumbs down (only one obviously) is a useful one for plod, although the one you used is also recognised.

Re: Motorcycle hazard warnings

To warn of speed traps, I flash my headlights like buggery, give the palm down job, and then if there's time I put my hand to my visor and 'take a picture' of the bike I'm warning. That usually gets me a thumbs up from the 'warned' biker.

Re: Motorcycle hazard warnings

Good question Nipedley, i'd probably flash my head light like crazy, then throw my thumb over my shoulder a couple of times...

Re: Motorcycle hazard warnings

Nice to know I didnt invent that one then I would flash, but my darned CG has 'always on' headlights. It's nice for the safety factor sure, but flashing can be a really useful signal x_x. I like that 'camera' idea BP, I'll have to remember that one for next time!

I would like to thank you for looking out for other riders, not all motorcyclists can be bothered.

I have always found the Jim Davidson "Nick Nick" signal works well.

You have to know who he is first

Flashing light and thumbs down. I used to do the "pigeon coming back from the library" but it was too funny
