Re: How many times to pass a bike test? Oh dear what a mess ![]() Short version is : I sacked my riding lessons and canceled my test for next week. I may or may not give it another go, haven't decided yet. Long version is : I went for my 125 day today, got there 10 minutes late (2 sets of roadwork lights and a road bridge up) went down to the pan and there's the bikes, 2 x big bikes (1 for another learner) and no 125 to be seen, anyway thinking wayhay! DAS it is then!! got on and getting the feel of it, up the gears etc etc and all of the time feeling just soooooooo uncomfortable and unhappy. Only my tiptoes touched the ground, I had to stretch forwards more than I felt was comfortable and had to move my hand forward holding the grip with just the end of my thumb to reach the clutch. As this was only my second time riding I expected to wobble a lot but didn't much and only stalled it the once when I first got on but it just felt so wrong and I simply didn't like it and didn't want to go out on the road as I felt so unsafe. So, doing another uncomfortable and unconfident circuit I got that upset with it all that I made the decision to end my riding there. The instructor was surprised and said I was doing fine but it was my decision. So that was that ![]() Been ticking it over all afternoon and evening, and with hindsight, I wish I had insisted on riding the 125, I would still be booked in for my test next week if I had, sooo I'm pretty sure it was the big bike and the pressure to ride it. I was OK on the 125 so I'm toying with the idea of getting one as I have my CBT I can ride with 'L' plates. So stuff the October change in bike test, stuff the pressure's of rigid training schedules, stuff my well meaning mates eager to take me here there and everywhere. Stuff it all, I'm gonna do this MY way (Do NOT call me Frank!) So, I may ride in the future but as tomorrows another day, I may not but one things for sure, I won't be going back to any production line training center unless I can confidently ride a 125 and then (possibly) progressing to a restricted bigger bike and learn slowly in my own time and at my own pace. ![]() There is a test booked and paid for next Wednesday, anyone want it?

Re: How many times to pass a bike test? sorry to hear that grots.but if you didnt have the confidence to take the big bike on the road then maybe you made the right decision.getting a 125 could be a good thing as with a bit of practice on your own will build confidence and you could still be ready for a test before the changes come into force, before i did my test i took quite a few two hourly lessons and put a good few thousand miles on my 125 i never liked the idea of an intensive course as i felt that it was too much to cram into a short space of time( im a slow learner )..so as you have already said, learn at a pace you are comfortable with and practice e,practice ,practice, between official lessons.............................Sam

Re: How many times to pass a bike test? Thanks for understanding Sam, I'm still at myself for not insisting on downgrading but I'm glad I didn't go out on the road, might not have been here to reply to you ![]()
