Re: where did your bike come from

Well, I haven't had that many bikes over the years, (I spent 20 years off a bike).

My first bike was a CB125 from a mate who didn't want it any more.

My next bike was a Suzuki GT250 I bought from a student in Scarborough who very kindly didn't tell me the alternator was was shagged and the bike was running on battery power

Then I had a couple of 250 Superdreams, one from a spot near the fire station in Scarborough and the other was from Transit motorcycles in York.

Then after I passed my test I bought a GPZ100RX from the Kawasaki dealer in Scarborough.

The Triumph I bought for my 40th last year from a local bike shop who had it in on behalf of a customer who couldn't find the right bike for him.

The latest GPZ I bought from a guy on another forum who'd bitten off more than he could chew as he bought it as a non-runner project bike while wanting to start it and ride off

Dunno where my next bike will come from as I'm after something very specific, a GPZ900 with the fancy petrol gauge and other instruments on an LCD screen on the tank.

If at first you don't succeed buy a snipers rifle, hire a clown suit and climb a clock tower

Re: where did your bike come from

First one (CBR 125) was a private sale from a chap in bradford - he was fine but his brother insisted I look at pictures of their dead uncle!!! (weird). However i made the mistake of buying the bike without all the paperwork. He said he had the log book - but then said his mum lost it after i'd handed over the cash. After some forms to the DVLA i got a new log book. Also the speedo and odometer meter didn't work - why i didn't spot that when i test rode the bike i'll never know. Oh well - all turned out ok in the end.

The 2nd bike (CBR 600RR) was purchased from Castles Honda in Castleford (Dealer). They were fantastic - bike was prepped and serviced - still has some warranty and cover. The previous owner was Honda UK.

Honda CBR 600RR and proud!!

Re: where did your bike come from

Mine turned up on the intranet in bt, my old man works there and sent me a pic. I said when can I go get it.

A couple of weeks later I'd been sent more pics and a video of it running, sorted the insurance as I knew I wanted it and travelled 300 miles to buy it from a private seller. First ride on an NC30 of 300 miles was not that comfortable, am soooo glad I did it tho, have had the bike for about 6 years now and wouldn't give it up for the world. I love the little toy.

Still want something bigger but will try my best to keep them both

Re: where did your bike come from

Got my CBR in a private sale. I noticed it on MCN's website and gave the guy a call, he lived 9 miles away and it looked in great nick so it was a no-brainer. He was a top bloke too, he threw in a bike cover and an Oxford tank bag as extras!

Re: where did your bike come from

Being an "old fart" now, the first couple of bikes were from others. including the CB125 Dream which went for nearly 6 months until it expired. Mostly bought from dealers by doing part-exs. Had a couple of dodgy ones but they were under warentee and got fixed.

Most of these purchases were before the interweb thingy

The last one was a "gift" from a mate ... I really like him, even tho it was only £500 notes for others. And I'm chuffed not having not clean it - it was his winter hack to keep his BMW nice and rust free.

Re: where did your bike come from

Private seller the bike looked ok no problems well for the total newb eye i guess i was just looking for rust and leaks bumps and stuff. I've had a number of problems two of which i would consider major and a few minor which are just little inconveniences at the moment. Over all i learn't not to buy right away and and take somebody who knows about bikes.
