What was your 'Golden Biking Moment'? Ok, lets hear about your 'golden moments' from your biking experiences - This is mine: A couple of years ago I was involved in a promo shoot for the 'Ulysses Adventure' in mid wales (on the then new Buell Ulysses). I considered myself to be a fairly proficient road rider, but the opportunity to do a bit of soft roading was too good to miss. After a dubious start on the training ground (fell off twice ) I felt more confident going into the forests, being lead by an ex Moto-X champion, and we had a whale of a time on the gravel tracks, green roads and water splashes. We came out of the forest near Devils Bridge (Cymystwyth) and turned toward Rhayader. I have to say, at this point, that the group consisted of (actual names withheld to protect the innocent!) JJ, ex police, quick rider; DD, also ex police but a 'steady' rider; CC, champion crosser but also steady road rider, and me (plus a film crew lagging way behind ). As soon as we hit the roads I got the nod from JJ, and we went for it, leaving CC & DD to plod. You have to see this stretch of (unclassified) road to believe it - a smooth new twisting ribbon of perfect tarmac through breathtaking scenery, and hardly any traffic ( didn't see more than a couple of vehicles all the way to Rhayader), so needless to say, we spanked those bikes hard, and boy is that a competent road machine, I was getting lower and lower as the corners went by (knee down? pah! almost got the shoulder down!), whooping like a mad man, and just knowing, knowing, that life doesn't get any better than this. I suspect that JJ was a little surprised that I stayed with him (he's QUICK) which made it all the more memorable, although I wouldn't ride like that every day. The Buells are just so confidence inspiring though..... Took me about a month to get the stupid grin off my face, but it will live in my memory forever. The only thing that can even come close is holding my newborn children, parents among you will understand. Over to you then, lets have em!

(incidentally, my personal biggest brown trouser moment was sliding sideways round a corner on a Fatboy, speedway style, because there was a slick of cows**t right across the road. I still don't know how I kept it upright) | |

Re: What was your 'Golden Biking Moment'? Darkest day ? Lying in the road, with my right foot in my left armpit, with my snapped femur bent underneath my arse. Biggest brown trouser moment ? Standing my ZXR on it's nose in front of a 38 tonne petrol tanker thats just pulled across the road in front of me, thinking "this is gonna really hurt" Golden moment ? Riding through Derbyshire last May, with 12 other bikes of the same model and the Mrs on the back and not wanting to go home.

Re: What was your 'Golden Biking Moment'? It'll never be 100%. Got some cracking scars from the scaffolding that was used to repair it though. Certainly put paid to my glittering football career. It was 20 years ago. Last edited by FirestormMike : 10-06-2008 at 08:01 AM. Reason: added a bit.

Re: What was your 'Golden Biking Moment'? golden moment. Just happened to me today - Taking White Gate Hill, (going up), at 120+ without realising it darkest moment Flying through the air after hitting a sheep at 100+ on the North Yorkshire Moors thinking "Well, at least the verge is going to be soft to land on" biggest brown trouser moment Coming down a lane on my 125 as fast as I could to go through the gate, (a pedestrian gate), onto the front path and round the back of my house. Only to realise I was slightly off course and instead of heading for the gate I was heading for a double thickness cemented stone wall.

If at first you don't succeed buy a snipers rifle, hire a clown suit and climb a clock tower
