I've been riding for about 7 years now, and I think every biker who survives the 1st 6 months does so because they develop a 6th sense, and learn to read in advance what the other road users are going to do. I've lost count of the times I would've been wiped out because of some car/van/lorry driver who was just completely unaware of what's going around them. Anyway, to my point, I recently purchased a headlight protector in yellow. I've read that the only legal colour is clear, but I'm sure I've also seen somewhere that yellow is o.k. Since I've had this fitted, I've noticed that a lot more people pull out of the way whilst filtering through heavy traffic, and less seem to pull out in front of me,which is surely what all us bikers want/need is'nt it. Anyway, that's my bit of advice, works a treat! Can't see the old bill being too bothered about it, as it's obviously done as a safety feature.

never heard that before carl.where did you get your headlight protector?does it make the light dimmer and what do you think is the reason that it makes you more visible?.the only thing i can think of is that people aren't used to seeing a yellow light and it grabs their attention more that a white one. ......................Sam | |

Re: Less Chance Of Getting Wiped Out!? i've only been on 2 wheels for about 6 months and no what you mean about the sixth sense, it's saved me on a couple off times. but still think i could go down the road full beam on and still get wiped out. until you are on a bike you dont appreciate the awareness thats involved.

Re: Less Chance Of Getting Wiped Out!? I think yellow is as far as you should go with those lamp protectors, I heard a few horror stories a few years back with peeps using red ones ![]() Makes your head light look like a tail in the dark, not a wise move as quite a lot of carbies pay little attention anyway.

You're right, I've seen blue, red, green, the lot, do these bikers want to get pulled by the cops that much! Why don't they also stick on a straight through exhaust, tiny show plate, some rabbit ears on their helmet, a "catch me if you can coppers" badge on their jacket, and pull a 200 yard wheelie through the town centre as well, just to make sure! ( I apologise to anyone who has stick on ears on their helmets, I think they're cool really. No really!

Re: Less Chance Of Getting Wiped Out!? Another good tip is to get one of those blue phillips bulbs which I am planning to do as for me they seem to be much more noticeable. Another thing I do when filtering between cars is to flick my high beam on until I clear the traffic. Not legal I know but if I can see the whole interior of the car lit up then I'm pretty sure that they know I'm there . I do switch back to dipped headlights as soon as there is any oncoming traffic though ![]()
