| Yamaha YZF R-125
Hey guys, i'm new to the forum so hi everyone i am about to turn 17 and buy the Yamaha 125... it is a gorgeous bike and from what i have read (hundereds of reviews ect.) it is reliable and fairly cheap to run. The thing i need help with is the maintenance. I don't know tooo much about bikes and i know that supersports such as the yamaha need regular maintanence. Can anyone give me some advice on what kind of things on those bikes need to be kept in check, changed regularly or refilled ect.. any help would be awesome. Also if anyone owns one, or has done, then i would love to know what you think of it! Cheers Guys. |

hello beetrootkiller welcome to the forum the man you want is mankycat to give you a rundown on that bike but he's in hospital at the moment, as for maintenance, you should get a service shedule in the handbook when you buy the bike if you stick to that you cant go wrong, some of the more technical minded peeps will be along soon with a better answer, now get yourself into the new members and introduce yourself to everyone ![]() .............................Sam

Awesome, cheers Sam, i will look into that.. i'm sure it cant be THAT hard :P hopefully i won't break it.. I'm not sure what to do.. you see im 17 in January but the 09 Yamaha's come out in march with the 09 plate that is.. and i could wait till then, but i don't know if the 09 models are much better, but an 09 plate would hold its value better?

you would get a better deal on a 08 plate ,especially if the dealers arent selling much through the winter ![]() .............................Sam

I owned a YZF R-125 after passing my CBT , awsome learner bike and best looking of the 125 range in my opionion. Wasn't the comfiest bike in the world (unless you are slightly taller than usual) but other than that was a steady, easy to ride, forgivable bike. As far as maintenance goes, i think someones said it, check the service manual. but things you should really be checking anyway are brake fluid levels, engine oil levels and keeping your chain nice and lubricated with chain lube. With it being a 4 stroke it uses hardly any oil unlike a 2 stroke. I also found that it was quicker than BOTH my brothers Aprillia RS 125 and my friends RS 125, both rode the bike and commented on the acceleration and cornering of the bike so much that they would even consider swapping for a YZF R125. Not sure what differences the 09 model will have but i suspect it will be minimal. I cant fault anything on the bike and still miss it occasionally but as a first bike it awsome and a great stepping stone to a bigger bike if thats the route you want to take!
