My friend's HD is far younger and done far fewer miles than any of my wife and I's four ancient bikes. None of our bikes keep falling to pieces and/or keeps breaking down.

If it wasn't 'fit for purpose' or running normally from the factory, why did he not communicating with trading standards and / or have the work carried out under warranty?

Sounds like he bought a lemon?

Re: The Joys of Spring

Ross, some Harleys are beautiful looking bikes especially custom jobs like your own but in general they dont run too quick, dont stop too quick and they sure as fuck dont handle well. Those are points that can be debated as long as you like and I am sure you will (as a harley fan) but facts are facts. I ride my Blackbird because its the best bike that I can afford that will do the job I want it to do. In my view Harleys are way overpriced for what you get in terms of performance and reliability. Forget the "character" thing. Character is one of those terms used by Harley owners, Ducati owners and old brit bike owners to describe something mechanical or electrical that doesn't work as its supposed to do

I still want a fat boy though - mind you I bet its a twat to bump start

I read that smoking weed destroys your brain cells - so I gave up reading

Why not try out our other sites? The Biker Cafe and Bikerholic

A least when a Ducati is running it goes like stink and handles well.
Someone near me has a 750SS Duke (a real one), and he rides it like he stole it.)

"Harleys dont run too quick" i dont agree with you, and they stop quick (if you rip off the original Harley brake system thas a load of shit and put somthing on that works, me i stick to double discs on the front with twelve pistons) and they can handle a lot better than people give em credit for.
i agree with you that there well over priced for example they didnt give me a reduction in price for keeping Harley Davidson stamped all over my bike so thats the first thing i got rid off, and as far as character goes forget it!! it either works or it dont if you cant fix it, fuck it if you cant fuck it throw it away. to bump start a fat boy??? start eating spinnach and develop your thigh muscles

keep the wind in your hair

The whole point is you should not need to pay out a shedload of money just to get a Harley to work properly.
It would cost a serious shed load of money to strip the engine and balance the crank, conrods and pistons so it did not try and self destruct itself and the rider.
