Speed Cameras HI Folks, just a simple question - may be me being a bit naive. What happens when you pass a police mobile camera unit and your above the speed limit of the road? They can't see your No. plate and most of the time the coppers aren't actually doing it with a gun but sat in a van. Obvioulsy fixed cameras (most) will catch your rear number plate. But what about the fixed (specs) camera's that record your average speed?

Re: Speed Cameras As far as I am aware, most of the "average speed" cameras can't get you but it wont be long before they add a rear view camera to get round it ![]()

Re: Speed Cameras Well, bit of advice here. If you're speeding up to a "safety" camera van, don't slow down, they've already got your speed and the slower you go, the more time for them to get out of the van, and look at your plate as you pass by on the other side of the dual carriageway, on a sunny April morning in Gainsborough 3 years ago! Yes I slowed dowm to 50, they got me, and thanks Worksop magistrates for the 21 day ban for my 1st offence. You're better off gunning it. Maybe you could try practising covering your number plate with your foot as you drive past.

Re: Speed Cameras I thought a copper noting down your plate with eyeballs was illegal. Where's the physical proof? It's your word against his - and in a court of law - that doesn't stand - they need physical proof. What if he misread your plate? I'd have fought the case!

Yeah, basically I would've had to stand there and say that either the copper had ballsed up and mis-read my plate, of he's just lying! Hmmmm impugning a police officer? Also they had a couple of good photos of me from the front, and it's a bit of a risk to challenge it, the bike colours, the clothing, and a pic of my face, well part of it. However, if I'd known they were going to come down hard on me, I would've paid for legal representation, but having looked up similar cases, I thought 3 points and a large ish fine would've been punishment enough. Don't speed near Worksop, the cops and magistrates are c%^&s!
