Best (value) Bike Helmet

I went to Hein Gerike this Sunday with wife to buy her a helmet.

We had a HJC or AGV in mind - about 80 to 100 quid. However she didn't feel comfortable in either. She measured in at XS size.

The shop assistant then started to pull out Arai's and Shoei's at 300 quid range. She said the AGV's were no good and that she would never wear one. Now my wife will hardly ever ride with me (very rarely) - is it worth buying a 300 quid helmet for her?

The shop assistant started to lay it on real thick - saying "well what value do you put on your wifes life" and all that! Made me feel really miserly in a shop full of other people.

I always thought AGV's were good (after all doesn't Rossi wear one?). So my question is - which is the best value bike helmet?

What are other peeps experiences in this area?

Honda CBR 600RR and proud!!

Hello Singh, I personally would always buy the best Helmet you can afford, I recently bought a new Caberg Justtima (spelt wrong.......need GB spel cheka), cost about £140.00 Check out the MCN website and follow the links for Parts and Clothing.

I imagine Badshads will have some advice about helmets for the missus

Re: Best (value) Bike Helmet

I have a DOT approved fiberglass & carbon fiber custom full face helmet which I bought new from the US for £65 and I have a a open face helmet which is ECE R22-O5 approved which I bought new from ebay for £30.

I don't think it's the cost that improves the safety, it's what the helmets made from. What I mean is, you can buy a new ARAI TOUR X STORM from ebay and pay £199 and you can go elsewhere and pay £349 for exactly the same helmet.

Re: Best (value) Bike Helmet

despite stroppys thinly veiled attempt at goading moi...i will resist any urge to reply...but will say that like most things in life...'you get what you pay for'...however having said that, there are also ,horses for coarse,s'
thing is as long as it has the relevant safety marks...and fits properly, then that would be good enough for what you want it for ..an i,ve always had a.g.v till now coz i,ve got a nitro ( just like sam ) an so has mrs b.s. but hers obviously....is purple !......

Re: Best (value) Bike Helmet

I have a Shoei now, very light and nice graphics. Comfortable too and the anti fog insert does its job very well. I used to have an HJC that I bought from the BMF show a few years back. This served me well and was great value for money with decent finish. It was quieter than the Shoei too

Re: Best (value) Bike Helmet

For a helmet to be a good lid, its gotta fit right, and not be made of ABS plastic... those ones are just crap.... fibreglass or carbon or some kind of resin.... just not the ones you can see the seam down the middle where they were plastic welded together....

I've got an RST, a HJC, 2 Lazers, FM and my pride and joy Sumoy Spec-1r
oh, and i've had a nitro too... fit quite well actually.

by far the suomy fits me the best.... however the lazers also fit me really well....

I took my missus out lid shopping and i made her try on loads of different ones, even though she felt ashamed... but i made her try on about 10 different lids, so she could see the difference.... and she went with an RST.... £80 i think it was... then she wanted the visor, then she wanted the gloves to match.... then the gloves didn't go with her jacket... then the boots needed replacement..

oh yeah, make sure when you buy your wife's helmet that you get a black one.
