Re: Dare to be Diesel?

personally i think its a good idea! i would have one if there were about more. hhhhmmmmm got me thinking, now im new to bikes and don't know much about them yet but i am mechaniclly minded (always been in to cars and used to race them on the ovals) and anythings possible when you put your mind to it. do you think a diesel engine from a generator/jetwash or any small diesel powered plant machine would work or mount up to a bike frame/gearbox? only thing i can think of at the moment is that if it did fit a frame/gearbox it would probably have to stay pull start(novel though).probably won't work and no doubt you will all tell me why it won't work but thats fine saves me trying it and looking like a plank!!!!!!

Oh yes, i dont think there is any issue with the engine side of things, people have used ruggerini generator engines etc, the problem is the gearbox/ transmission/clutch- what to use?
Ive done bit of research and i reckon the easy way is to get the engine and gear box from a John Deere Gator about 30hp- you get a 3 cylinder diesel engine (so not like a cement mixer!) and a variable speed gearbox -works with cones and belts (cant recall its proper name?)
Anyway even brand new the engine is only about £2500, ( note the only, say it quick and people dont notice )
I would love to do this but i think it would take me forever to find all the bits without spending a fortune, but anyone who knows a good scrappy would probably be able to do it fairly cheap?
