MOTOGP: 600's to replace 250?

Found this article on Spree's other site. FIM are thinking of scraping 250cc and replacing with 600cc inline4 bikes.

MotoGP: 600 Fours to Replace 250s Announced Today - Bikerworkshop.com

Sounds like a really good idea - i for one think so.

Moves MotoGP bikes more to common sports bikes.

Thoughts?

Re: MOTOGP: 600's to replace 250?

To be honest I would prefer to see 400's instead of 600's. The 600 is a bit too close to the current 800's for me.

I would hate to see the end of racing two strokes, the sound, the smell, just wouldn't be right

Re: MOTOGP: 600's to replace 250?

A meeting at this weekend's Catalan Grand Prix has ended with the MSMA (Motorcycle Sports Manufacturers' Association) responding to Dorna's proposal for a new four-stroke class, to replace 250GP from 2011, by naming 600cc four-cylinders as its preferred choice.

The decision was reached by a majority verdict and follows previous suggestions that 650cc or 500cc twin-cylinders should succeed the quarter-litre two-strokes.

The 600cc proposal will now be examined further by the other members of the Grand Prix Commission - FIM, IRTA and Dorna - with the next meeting to be held at the Dutch TT later this month
The main difficulty for the new class will be to avoid conflict with the World Supersport Championship - which believes it has exclusive rights to the use of production-based 600cc machines in a world championship - whilst keeping costs for the new class as low as possible.

as above the last i heard, so if they cant use an engine based on an engine that allready exisits its gonna be expensive which i believe is what they are trying to get away from, this hasnt been thought through properly

if you want to tell me to fuc* off, i will not take offence

I agree with you a bit there Rerb - they are unique!!

Spree, i thought MotoGP bikes were like the equivalent to F1 cars - (ie nothing like road cars) - MotoGP bikes use exotic engines and alloys, different construction frames, etc. and that WSB and BSB bikes were more closer to road going bikes.
