It seems that Dorna have lost their patience with the owners of Donnington, who have been tardy in making the improvements necessary to adequately host the British round of MotoGP. To host F1, the owners will need to spend a massive amount on Donnington, far more than would have been needed to bring Silverstone up to the right specifications. Bernie Ecclestone's decision therefore seems to have been illogical and I would imagine we will see the entrance fee to get into Donnington increasing massively in the years to come to pay for all the improvements needed. On the other hand, Silverstone is already significantly better than Donnington in terms of the facilities available and the condition of the track etc and I think the moves that have been announced will be bad for F1, but very good for MotoGP. On balance therefore, I'm quite pleased. ![]()

MotoGP to Brands I say, I'd willingly travel twice the distance to see it there.

| Re: F1 moves to DONNINGTON in 2010 I wouldn't say that Silverstone is appreciably worse than Donnington or Brands for spectators. There is nowhere that you can see all of the track at any of the three venues, but I would say a vantage point at Bridge or Luffield would be as good as any vantage point at Brands and so too would the stands at Stowe and Club and Becketts. It would not surprise me if F1 returns to Silverstone once the first contract at Donnington comes up for renewal. Silverstone also has the advantage of being centrally placed within England, close to the M1 & the M40 and roughly equidistant between London and Birmingham. |

Why do DORNA and the F1 governing body set such lengthy contracts with circuits, giving a track a max of two years would certainly get rid of the current complacency shown by both Donnington and Silverstone. Again just my two penneth.

| Re: F1 moves to DONNINGTON in 2010 Or maybe Uncle Ecclestone justs wants to get rid of a British GP full stop. He's got a queue of countries asking to host a GP. Think about it - he hates Silverstone and the BRDC - so it'll never go back to Silverstone in Bernies lifetime. Also he knows that Donno will never get upto scratch in time or in budget - so after 1 race he'll say it was a disaster and give the British GP slot to another country like India (hurrah!) or middle/far east (boo!!) I've been to Donno, Brands and Silverstone - and in MY opinion - Silverstone is the best F1 track, the other circuits are very good too - but that doesn't mean they can't switch yearly between Donno and Silverstone. We need to move away from the "down south" motorsport bias... |
