Tributes from patients, colleagues and friends poured in after Dr Kathy Phipps, a Barnsley GP and assistant medical director of Barnsley PCT, died with her cardiologist husband when the couple were thrown from a motorcycle during a family holiday in Florida.
Dr Phipps, widely known for her enthusiasm and caring stance — as well as her flamboyant hair colours and ability to shop — joined Garland House Surgery, Darfield, and Woodgrove Surgery, Wath upon Dearne, near Barnsley, Yorkshire, 15 years ago.
Her father Mike Phipps said ‘She was a one off; flamboyant, engaging and patients loved her.’
Dr Phipps was a member of the Royal College of GPs Adolescent Task Group and the Association for Young People's Health.
Dr Dick Churchill, acting chairman of the Task Group, said ‘Kathy was a dynamic, enthusiastic member who was passionate about her work.’
Dr Phipps and her husband Dr Walter Rhoden left three children, Olivia,12, Emily,15 and Jamie, 16.
The family has opened a website with information and the opportunity to send a message of sympathy at
