Marathon send-off for The Hairy Bikers

Join the send-off for around the world traveller Nick Sanders' latest 55,000 mile adventure and sample some of The Hairy Bikers grub too!

THE SAME day as tens of thousands of runners tackle the London Marathon - one man embarks upon his very own personal test of endurance.

In the 120 days that follow, maverick motorcycle adventurer Nick Sanders will cover a distance equivalent to more than 2,000 marathons, as he rides up and down and all around the globe on his most extreme motorcycle challenge ever.

Unlike the thronging masses who will pound 26 and a quarter miles of city streets, Nick has no medics or support crews on standby along the way, nor will he often have the luxury of smooth tarmac beneath him. But Hein Gericke is hoping that, as well as clothing and equipment, it can also help provide him with a crowd of supporters at start of this remarkable - and Nick's final - 55,000-mile solo odyssey.

Supporters are invited to Nick's official farewell event at Hein Gericke Stockwell (320 Clapham Road, SW9), where, from 1pm onwards, TV chefs, The Hairy Bikers, will be serving up suitable snacks to those attending. There will also be special offers, prize draws and the chance to quiz Nick on his incredible journey, before the man himself leads a ride-out, leaving Stockwell at 4pm, to his official start point at the Greenwich Meridian.

Riders who can't make it to the Stockwell event are also invited to meet up with everyone outside the Greenwich Maritime Museum at 5pm for an official photocall and send-off.

Nick will then set off from this parallel line of 0º longitude to travel through every other time zone aboard his trusty R1. And he says that anyone wishing to ride alongside him, for as far as they like, on the UK leg of his epic journey is more than welcome.

“Sure, there are some concerns about travelling through places like Kenya because I don't know what to expect or believe.” Nick commented. “But with seven trips successfully completed, I'm pretty confident I can ride my way through most situations. The weather is my prime concern, but bearing in mind who my main supporter is, I'm absolutely ready for the challenge.”

From the launch date onwards, anyone wanting to keep up to speed with Nick's progress will be able to log on to Parallel World | The ultimate test for an interactive map of his route, regular video podcasts, pictures and blogs direct from Nick, plus the chance to send him messages of support.
