Motorbikes seized in safety check

More than 30 bikers could have their machines crushed after being caught out by a police safety campaign.

Nottinghamshire Police stopped 469 motorcyclists as part of Operation Retina, which was carried out last month in a bid to cut road deaths.

Out of those, 31 had their bikes seized because they could not provide a licence, insurance or tax details.

Nearly half of bikers stopped were found to have faulty vehicles and were ordered to carry out repairs.

Ch Insp Andy Charlton from Nottinghamshire Police, said: "There was some illegality detected, we had to arrest a couple of disqualified drivers.

"A number had no insurance, no licence and they're going to expect the full measure of the law."

Police said enforcement checks would be carried out throughout the summer.

You don't need to carry such items on you. All the plod has to do is reference the registration number with the DVLA and insurance industry databases.
You are most unlikely to get stopped for such checks if you are legal as ANPR cameras will have checked and verified your number plate before you get to the stop/check point.

i have been stopped twice on the settle bypass on the way back from the beermonsters rally for safety checks, dot inspector with police in attendance, they were only stopping bikes, ignoring boy racers that were tearing past in hot hatches, the bike copper told me if in their opinion your bike was judged unroadworthy ,it was staying there, they checked your bikes details
on the computer to check if it was legal, but issued a producer anyway (why?...because they can)then to put the top hat on it,when i took my documents into my local cop shop, the copper behind the desk give me the thats a big bike mate how fast have you had out of that then,(do i look like i came over tied underneath a artic) they do this in april of every year,so we now ride thru settle on the way back got nowt to hide just cannot be bothered with the hassle
