Anonymous tip-offs form part of Kent’s summer campaign

Kent Police is encouraging the public to blow the whistle on motorcyclists they believe are riding dangerously.

The force says road users should call Crimestoppers to report “anti-social riders”, because such motorcyclists put other motorists at risk.

The anonymous tip-off’s would form one of a number of measures being introduced as part of Kent Police’s Safer Summer campaign, which it is running in conjunction with its road safety partners.

Inspector Alex Jones says the campaign is focussed on saving lives, rather than spoiling motorcyclist’s fun and issuing fines for speeding. “It’s about keeping them, and other road users, alive.”

Other activities planned as part of Safer Summer include talking to motorcyclists at the May Day Run from London to Hastings, the Brands Hatch British Superbike round, the Ace Café Bank Holiday run to Margate, and the BMF’s Garden of England show in Detling.

In addition, speed cameras would be set up on roads where the force says a high number of motorcyclists have been killed or seriously injured in the past.

“We will educate, enforce the law, and talk to motorcyclists at major events, giving them advice that could save their lives,” Jones said.
