Shane Byrne heads first Free Practice

Shane Byrne has topped the first Superbike table of the bank-holiday weekend at the Oulton BSB round in the first Free Practice session.

The Airwaves Ducati rider ended the 50 minute long session six tenths faster than the an in second, who happens to be the rider sharing the championship lead with him, Cal Crutchlow.

Crutchlow and his team-mate in the HM Plant Honda ranks Leon Haslam were split by Karl Harris who is still walking around paddock with the aid of crutches following his horror off at Thruxton a fortnight ago.

The real shock of the session was John Laverty setting the tenth fastest time ahead of many Superbike riders on his Cup 1098R Ducati, and a whopping 16 places in front of his brother Michael Laverty on the Relentless Suzuki Superbike.
