TomTom updates Rider GPS system

Features include fuel price locator

TomTom has announced a new enhanced version of its navigation system for motorcycles.

The new version of TomTom’s Rider 2nd edition includes new features such as custom map sharing between users, access to emergency services and roadside assistance and an optional subscription service that locates nearby gas stations and displays their prices. Those who have previously purchased the 1st or 2nd edition of Rider will receive a free software update.

“We aim to provide all TomTom customers with the highest-quality navigation experience available,” says Jocelyn Vigreux, president of TomTom. "Now, Rider customers have the same innovative features as users of our automobile products, most notably TomTom Map Share and Help Me!. And, bikers who use the enhanced Rider 2nd edition can find the lowest fuel prices on their route and avoid heavy traffic areas – services that can be particularly helpful as the summer travel season approaches.”

The new enhanced Rider 2nd edition is preloaded with the latest Tele Atlas maps of the United States and Canada. As well, if a new map is released within 30 days of purchasing their device, customers can download it for free.

The TomTom Rider features an easy-to-use touchscreen with extra large icons to make it easier for motorcyclists to operate while wearing gloves. A built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides up to five hours of operation and for a constant charge, the Rider can be hooked up to a 12 volt motorcycle battery.

The Rider is waterproof and comes with a mount that fits most motorcycle models and is designed to handle the vibrations and pressures of riding. It comes with a Bluetooth headset for receiving spoken directions while wearing helmets.

The enhanced version is available for US$649.95, the same price as the original TomTom Rider 2nd edition.
