'Motor insurance landscape is shifting'

There has been an increase in the number of people taking out a car or motorbike insurance policy online, according to new statistics.

As part of its 2008 comScore Online Automobile Insurance Report, digital world analyst comScore disclosed that there was a three per cent rise in the amount of motorists choosing to take out a deal by using the internet.

Indeed, company vice president Kevin Levitt remarked that consumer habits are shifting across the sector, adding that more and more people are using the world wide web as opposed to traditional methods when it comes to taking out cover.

Mr Levitt commented: "These latest findings show us that the landscape is beginning to change, with more and more consumers turning from traditional, offline channels to the internet."

This comes as Sainsbury's research recently found that a significant number of motorists took to roads in the UK last month despite the fact that they did not have car insurance.

According to the group, there were 1.15 million drivers travelling on British highways without cover over the last 12 months.

There is a plethora of comparison websites and others who claim to deliver the lowest quotes. Probably best to try out a few different sites along with a number of different insurers.
