Asphalt cubes from old racetrack sell at auction for kids' cancer fund
A CHARITY auction of the old racetrack surface of the Brno circuit, the venue for the ninth round of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship in July, has brought in more than 200,000 Czech Koruna (8000 Euro) for children's patients.
Asphalt cubes cut from the old racetrack surface of the Brno circuit will help the Oncology ward of the University Children's Hospital in Brno.
The first charity auction took place at the Brno circuit as a part of the gala opening of the resurfaced racetrack on Sunday 18th May 2008. The cubes were signed by a number of famous racers and racing drivers including Troy Bayliss, Troy Corser, Max Biaggi from Superbike, Casey Stoner and Valentino Rossi from MotoGP and erstwhile Formula 1 driver Thomas Enge.
The money will be given to KRTEK, the Childhood Cancer Foundation, which supports the Oncology ward of the University Children's Hospital in Brno and will be spent mostly on new medical equipment, such as a vital functions monitor or pulse oxymeter.
