Learners urged: book test now or face chaos

Learner riders must book their test this month or face chaos trying to get a licence, bike manufacturers have warned.

Anyone who books after July will not take his test until October, when 85% of test centres are set to close under new legislation, according to the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA).

Over 200 existing test centres across the UK were due to be replaced in October with 60 new “super test centres”. But the MCIA has warned that delays mean as few as 30 will be ready.

Honda issued a warning to learners stating: “New riders will have to travel further to take their test, perform additional tasks to pass their practical test and also pay more due to the additional training and time required.”

The MCIA’s policy director, Craig Carey-Clinch, said he feared it would impact on the number of people taking up motorcycling.

He said: “What we do know is traditionally you get a big build-up of tests taken before changes to the licensing regime and a dip afterwards.”

Have they not considered that they might lose some money out of this? Never mind, they'll get it back by ripping us off some other way. (Bloody hell I've turned into Jim Royle!)

It's just one big shambles, and why? because the EU said we have to!!

It's get my goat that a certificate can be obtained without even doing anything in places like greece and what do we do? Stick to the bluddy letter of the law - our law, that is, the one's that are supposed to apply to all of the EU, as there seem's to be different applications according to which fecking EU country your in

Re: Learners urged: book test now or face chaos

We have two friends who are bike instructors. They are worried about the price increases they will have to make due to the amount of extra work to get people through their test...so if you haven't done it already get it booked as soon as you can

What happens if you book your test, and the test date is eg. 1st Aug and you fail how do you go about a re-test? Would you then have to go thru the new test, in October.

The new test become effective on 29 September 2008.

Because of this it is anticipated that more learners will be booking their tests before this date, which will make waiting time for re-tests longer.

See the new rider forum for more details etc
