Thumbs up 17th Annual Ride to Work day, Wednesday 16th July 2008.

Ride to Work Day is a day for all bike and scooter users to get out and about on their bikes and ride to work, ideally with a pillion. Part of National Motorcycle week - 14 July 2008 - 18 July 2008

"Now's The Time" is the slogan for Ride To Work Day 2008, so don't delay, get yourself on two wheels and get involved,' says Frank Finch, Head of Motorcycle Associations for the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF)

Ride To Work Day takes place next Wednesday (16 July 2008). The event highlights the benefits of using a motorcycle or scooter to travel to and from work.

Thousands of motorcycle owners will be on the road and Finch believes it is a great idea: 'Riding to work is beneficial for everyone. It is a quicker commute for the riders, and as a bike occupies far less space on the road than a car, it reduces congestion. With motorcycles and scooters typically being far more economical than a car and with fuel costs rising, it is also a cheaper option.'

Ride To Work Day will show the benefits of commuting on two wheels:
· cuts congestion
· cuts pollution
· cuts journey times
· Lower fuel costs
· convenient and flexible

Finch adds: 'Ride To Work events will be held all over the country on Wednesday 16 July. Contact your nearest motorcycle dealer to find out more.

Ride To Work Day is part of National Motorcycle Week 2008, organized by the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCI). It is the annual campaign that demonstrates the value and popularity of motorcycling in the UK, as wells as the social, environmental and economic benefits.

According to Finch, there will be a lot going on: 'During the week many RMIF member dealers will also be organising special evening ride-out events to support Ride To Work Day. Ride-outs are increasingly popular with many motorcyclists, as they enable riders to enjoy their machines, and meet other owners and enthusiasts who have discovered the benefits of taking to two wheels. They are held throughout the year.'

Ride your motorcycle or scooter on this day to demonstrate : -

* The number of motorcyclists to the general public and to politicians.

* That motorcyclists are from all occupations and all walks of life.

* That motorcyclists can reduce traffic and parking congestion in large cities.

* That motorcycles are for transportation as well as recreation.

* That motorcycling is a social good.

Re: 17th Annual Ride to Work day, Wednesday 16th July 2008.

by the time ive pulled my bike out, kitted up and then ridden the 1 1/2 miles to work, i could have walked down the road, over the park and been at work, so to make up for it i shall go out in the morning on my bike for no other reason than 'because i can' (working 2 till 10)

I'm building up to riding every day - I want more wet-weather confidence before the winter though.

That said - I'm riding in tomorrow whatever the weather!

Re: 17th Annual Ride to Work day, Wednesday 16th July 2008.

i could ride to work, but then i'd have to ride home again at 5 to get the car to go back out to pick up the 3 kids! (thats extra journeys not very enviro friendly!) hopefully did my bit from age 16 to 25 when i only ever rode my bike cos there was only me and the missus, still use it to commute if there's no kids to pick up on the way home.
