Fuchs Silkolene appoints new UK Marketing Manager

Fuchs Silkolene are delighted to announce the recent appointment of Richard Barrett, as their new UK Marketing Manager. Richard will report directly to Russell Kenyon, the companys UK Sales and Marketing Director, and will be based at the companys Hanley headquarters. The ex Total employee is a man with a wealth of lubricants experience.

Born in Castleford West Yorkshire in 1969, Richard first worked in the oil industry in 1991 for Charrington Hargreaves who are a local distributor. Four years later Barrett moved to Philips Petroleum where he occupied the role of Commercial Manger, tasked with selling fuels and lubricants to various different markets. After a three-year stint at Philips, Richard then joined Q8 Petroleum as a Business Development Manager where his key objective was to recruit new filling stations.

Barrett only remained with Q8 for a brief spell before taking the opportunity to become Commercial Manger at Total UK. It was here that Richard stayed until he joined Fuchs Silkolene earlier this year. During his time at Total, Richard occupied three different roles, those being Commercial Manger for four years, followed by a two-year period as OEM Manager before moving on to be OEM and Marketing Manager for his final three years of service. The latter of these roles saw Barrett in charge of Totals European brand liaison and the automotive marketing activity for both Total and Elf in the UK.

In addition to having a solid founding in the oil industry, Richard is also a keen two-wheel enthusiast, and can often be found aboard his Kawasaki ZXR1200 either touring the roads of Great Britain, or enjoying one of the many track days he squeezes into his busy schedule each year. The combination of these elements means that Richard has all the right ingredients to drive the business forward with a full understanding of the demands and needs of the specialist motorcycle market place.

Commenting on his recent appointment Barrett added. I am delighted to have joined what is recognised by many as one of the leading lubricant companies in the fast moving world of motorcycling. Both the Fuchs and the Silkolene brands are synonymous with quality and performance, I will be focusing on improving these messages to our distributors, dealers and end users. We have long been amongst the top players in this market, but we now aim to communicate this fact in a much more exciting and dynamic way where our customers can really understand the true value of choosing and using the full range of Fuchs Silkolene products.

The feedback to date about our title sponsorship of the British Supersport Championship, plus being the official lubricant of the 2008 British Superbike Championship has been extremely positive and has certainly renewed our presence in what is obviously both a competitive and important sector of our business. This has worked well alongside our position of also being the official lubricant sponsor of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship in the off road world. These are just two areas in which I am really keen to drive the brand forward. Concluded Richard.
