Organiser of two cancelled bike shows to sue for loss of earnings

The organiser of two motorbike shows is suing two venues after his events were cancelled amid fears of violence.

Steve Bennett claims to be £100,000 in debt and is taking legal action against the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society (RWAS) and Anglesey Show Society.

The Welsh National Motorcycle Show was planned for Powys in May and the Anglesey event was halted in August.

Anglesey Show Society said it would not comment at the moment, and the RWAS has been asked for a response.

The national bike show at the Royal Welsh showground in Llanelwedd had been running since 2000, while the Isle of Anglesey Motorcycle Show started in 1999.

Both events were cancelled on police advice after Dyfed-Powys Police and North Wales Police warned of possible violence between rival biker gangs.

I am attempting to sue both venues for breach of contract
Steve Bennett

Mr Bennett, from Nantymoel, near Bridgend, refuted police claims, and said their advice had landed his company, Welsh Motorcycle Shows Limited, in debt.

He is hoping to claim damages for loss of earnings and for direct losses as a result of both events being cancelled.

"I haven't informed either venue yet because I am still building a case, but I am attempting to sue both venues for breach of contract," Mr Bennett said.

"My legal representatives said I have a case, but there is still a lot of formal paperwork to be carried out.

"I can't afford not to try and do this."

Not sure Sam, seems to me that the committee canceled them on the advice of the police, so is it the committee he's suing?

It would have been in their contract that they cannot cancel on him, would it not?
Making it illegal if they did?

Wasn't there a bloke who gave this one a go when his boat sank and the insurance wouldn't pay out due to it being a "act of god"

I think the Church paid him out.

I think the Church paid him out.
That was a film, And in it, he blamed God for the storm that sank it
He then went to sue the Church of England, saying God owned it or something.

He ended up realizing the case would go on forever, And claiming a moral victory,
His girlfriend then sold the story to a newspaper, and he got enough money to buy a new boat

Great film

I know it was a film, but I thought it was based on a true story from someone in Oz????

Though thinking about it, perhaps thunderlad should think about suing the government for creating so much 'earth destroying crap' by allowing Gordon Brown to open his gob

What i don't understand, is how could be be 100 grand into debt?
He would have gotten a refund from the company would he not?

Nah, Just did a little research on it,
The Man Who Sued God (2001)

The Man Who Sued God DVD
''These facets of performance are used and abused in a tale that feels like it really ought to be based on a true story, but isn't.''
