| Re: Plans announced by Government - Motorcycles to be fitted with speed limiters Quote:
We all do it at some time or another, be it deliberately, inadvertently or blatantly. The thing is, such a device is taking away ones personal responsibility to control oneself and stay within the speed limit which is a very draconian measure to take. It doesn't matter if you speed deliberately, inadvertently or blatantly, if you're nicked you have to face the consequences of your actions by holding your hands up. I can see a wave of people who had to have them fitted by law, (probably at their own expense), 'disabling' the device then saying "But my speed limiter didn't kick in officer, how could I have been speeding?" | |

| Re: Plans announced by Government - Motorcycles to be fitted with speed limiters I agree about it taking away your own responsibility to control your speed, but unfortunately the current system doesn't seem to working does it? Yes, people do exceed the speed limit but if you do it inadvertently you're more likely to be 5-10 mph over rather than 30 or 40 or even more which is what those who blatantly or deliberately do. I'm not saying that 5-10 mph is better than 30 or 40, but the consequences can be much more serious and hopefully that's taken into account by the law when you are caught. If I'm going to be involved in an accident when someone is speeding, I'd rather it was someone doing 5-10mph extra than 40 - If they want to kill themselves fine, but don't kill me as well. I've found myself on roads where I'm not certain of the speed limit - but I will go with the flow of other traffic so I don't cause an obstruction by going too slowly and if I'm speeding and I get caught, fair do's. It sounds like it could be an especially unsuitable device for two-wheels but if people stuck to the speed limits then perhaps they wouldn't be putting forward these proposals in the first place. |
