The Bennetts British Superbike Championship (BSB) heads to Silverstone this weekend (27-28 September) for the penultimate round of the 2008 season. The championship boasts an all-star rider line-up which is currently led by Shane Byrne. The Airwaves Ducati rider is widely expected to be crowned 2008 Champion on Sunday at the famous Northamptonshire circuit.
Away from the track there is plenty to keep whole family entertained:
The Bolddog Lings display team
The UK’s number one motorcycle display team, the Bolddog Lings team, will be at Silverstone on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September. The UK’s top ranked freestyle motocross riders will be putting on a show of the latest heart stopping tricks. Having set the standard 12 years ago, the Bolddog Lings team continue to push the boundaries of FMX, leading the way for all motorcycle display teams. Between displays the public will also be able to visit the interactive stand, getting a closer look at the bikes and meeting the motocross riders.
Giant Screens
Silverstone’s open paddock policy also enables fans to get up close and personal with the current BSB teams and riders, and make the most of the scheduled rider autograph sessions. In addition, all ticket holders will have free access to any of the trackside grandstands around the 2.213 mile International Circuit and be able to watch all the on-track drama unfold on three giant TV screens, located at Luffield, Abbey and Copse.
60th Anniversary Classic Bike Display and Rider Parade
As the conclusion to Silverstone’s 60th anniversary celebrations the circuit has gathered a stunning collection of iconic race bikes to represent the best of British motorcycle racing. Classic motorcycle racing bikes from the 50s through to current day will be featured in a mouth watering Bike Display, next to the open paddock, on the Sunday of the race weekend.
A host of legendary riders will be jumping on board the classic bikes for a lunchtime demonstration Parade*.
Biking super stars confirmed for the parade lap so far include:
Stan Woods – the legendary Irish motorcycle racer whose career debuted in 1922 and who went on the claim 29 motorcycle Grand Prix wins and the Isle of Man TT race 10 times
Stuart Graham - son of 1949 500cc Motorcycle World Champion Les Graham. During his motorcycle career from 1961–1970, Stuart was a works rider for both Honda and Suzuki World Championship GP Teams, with wins including the Isle of Man TT, World Championship GPs and World Endurance Records
Trevor Nation – former Superbike Champion whose career highlights include winning the 1984 750cc Production TT and 1986 1000cc Production TT
Tony Rutter – father of current BSB rider Michael, who won seven Isle of Man TT races
Michael Rutter - nicknamed "The Blade", Michael has won 26 BSB races, most recently at Mallory Park in 2008, and finished as series runner-up twice. He has also contested MotoGP and World Superbike Championship events.
Niall MacKenzie - won the BSB Championship three times from 1996 to 1998, and the British 250cc and 350cc titles earlier in his career. He had a long career in the Grand Prix motorcycle racing circuit, debuting in 1984. His final racing season was the 2000 BSB series.
Race day (Sunday) Tickets are available to purchase in advance for as little as £23. Tickets will also be available to purchase on the day, priced at £30 for the Sunday and £15 for qualifying on Saturday. All tickets include general admission, a roving seat and free parking.
