UK Government Plan 2nd Offence Ban For Speeding Riders

Despite the fact that statistics show over and over again, that speeding is NOT what causes road fatalities, it's still THE way for governments to pick your pockets. Now, in the UK, they're planning to go one step further.

If you are caught for a 2nd time speeding on your motorcycle (or car), exceeding the speed limit by 15 mph in the city, or 25 mph on the motorways, you loose your driving license. At least in baseball you get 3 strikes before you're out.

At this moment, if you're caught speeding, you get points on your license, which lead, eventually, to the loss of your precious piece of paper.

The UK government is planning to increase the points you get for speeding, accelerating the loss of your driving license, and at the same time, increase the cost of the fines.

I continue to marvel at the stupidity of governments all over the world. They do everything in their power to extract money from honest taxpayers, and often making it impossible for those same people to make a living, or even to live normally. I can't start to imagine what will happen to me if I loose my license. I'm miles away from the nearest shops or public transportation.

You can of course say "don't speed", ad you'd be absolutely right, but from experience I know that often speed traps are done in such a way that the traffic situation if not clear, or confusing, or done in such a way that there is no other way for you. I was once caught speeding on an autoroute where over 13 kilometers, the speed limit changed 17 times, oscillating between 70 to 130 kph.

All the government manages to do is increase the number of people who will ride illegally, since they don't have a license anymore (and therefore by default, no insurance). It's becoming more and more like a bad B-movie of a nearby future "the-government-controls-everything-except-a-band-of-people-resisting" movie.

But then, we deserve the people we have voted into power.

well lets put it this way, i can't afford to pay current fines, so i drive carefully anyway, but it still doesn't stop me going slightly over the limit, despite being careful.

Re: UK Government Plan 2nd Offence Ban For Speeding Riders

no excuse for doing 45mph in a 30 or 95mph on the motorway both are too excessive with todays traffic conditions no matter what machine you drive or ride. its time their were some proper consequences to doing stupid speeds through towns and villages where the driver of the vehicle gets a slap on the wrist and the pedestrian or cyclist is killed or seriously injured.
dont get me wrong we've all done it but it shouldn't be that you can just keep speeding and just build up a few points and a tiny fine. one warning should be enough.

Re: UK Government Plan 2nd Offence Ban For Speeding Riders

theres "speeding" and theres "SPEEDING"....the first being 5 or 6 mph over the speed limit...the second being waaaayyy over....

50 % over the speed limit falls in the second category... so I agree with hondaboy.....if you're caught that much over the speed limit once and do it again, obviously you didnt listen the first time....its unlikely you'll listen the second...or third....or indeed until you kill someone, including yourself

on the flip side....once they bring it in for these speeds....a blind man can see the limits will be reduced until you're caught creeping over by 5 or 6 miles an hour and lose your license...

sorry deano whats bollox.
it takes 4 speeding offences of 3 points each before you get a ban and the fines for not having a tv license or dropping litter are higher

i think thats small fines and too many warnings

i think the silly fines for being marginally over are unjustified but people take the p*** and drive at just under 100mph cos they know they wont get banned should get a good hammering of their license and wallet

Re: UK Government Plan 2nd Offence Ban For Speeding Riders

'one warning' is bollox. and fines / points are (I believe) already variable depending on speed excess.
I have no disagreement with heavier punishments for speeding in inappropriate places such as built up areas etc, but a blanket ban for 2 offences is erm . . . well, bollox frankly
