MotoGP & WSB - Brands Hatch loss is Donington Park’s gain
THE Kent circuit of Brands Hatch will not be hosting a World Superbike round in 2009, the Championship’s owner FG Sport has confirmed.
The Brands Hatch round, traditionally held in the first week of August, regularly attracted some of the largest crowds in British racing.
Racing fans on Internet message boards have responded angrily to the loss of the popular circuit.
There will now be no World Superbike round held in August and the return of a South African round at Kyalami on May 17 replaces the missing British round.
However, the loss of Brands Hatch is Donington Park’s gain and the Leicester circuit will now be hosting the only world championship level motorcycle road racing in the UK.
Next year the British round of the World Superbike Championship will take place on June 28 and the MotoGP takes place a month later on July 26.
Simon Gillett, Donington CEO, said: “We are delighted to be once again hosting these prestigious events. In the World Superbikes we will have one of the strongest ever British challenges while in MotoGP our local hero James Toseland will be taking on the world’s best.”
