Academy Cup Champion Hastings awarded Spanish challenge

2008 ACU Academy Cup Champion Tim 'Twister' Hastings leads the latest trio of riders who have been rewarded with an ACU funded place in the final two rounds of the Dorna CEV Buckler Championship in Spain.

Following their strong performances in rounds of the Relentless British 125GP Championship at British Superbike events this season Hastings, Matt Hoyle and Paul Jordan have been rewarded with an option to have their entry funded into the final two rounds of the Spanish Championship.

Hastings said: "I know it's going to be tough, I'll be up against world class competitors, on world class machinery, on unfamiliar race tracks! I'm going to Spain to try my very best. The races will be oversubscribed and in years past as many as 80 riders have entered. My main goal is to qualify for the race and learn from the fast guys." Hastings will be joined in the paddock by some familiar rivals, with fellow British 125GP riders Deane Brown and Martin Glossop.

The ACU Academy Cup initiative began back in 2005 in association with Dorna and BSB to help young riders progress on to the world stage, with riders such as Dan Linfoot, Danny Webb.

"It's very pleasing to see three more young British riders taking on the best in Europe in this proven and highly competitive Championship", said Jim Parker, Chairman of the ACU's Road Race Committee.

"I am delighted that the ACU have been able to play a part in making this happen and we will be following their progress in these races with interest," he continued.

The quality of the 2008 Relentless British 125GP Championship was shown again last weekend at Valencia with 'Matty' Hoyle taking the win for Europe over 6 seconds ahead of the 2008 Rookies Cup winner Luis Salom in the USA v Europe Red Bull Rookies Riders Cup. Hoyle said: "Finally my first Rookies win. It's what I came here for and I'm so glad to get it in my last Rookies race."
