James Bond motorcycle - exclusive to Burnley company

JAMES BOND has got a brand new motorcycle – from an East Lancashire firm.

Hapton-based James Sandiford Motorcycles Ltd, supplied a quantity of Montesa Trials Motorcycles to the production team from Pinewood Studios.

They have been used in the stunts for the latest Bond film, which is out at cinemas today.

The family business, spanning three generations, has been the sole UK concessionaire for Montesa for the past 42 years.

It has a history of being involved with high-octane blockbusters and provided bikes for use in The Bourne Ultimatum last year.

The Montesa Cota 4RT model, which will be seen in the action film, is a four stroke, 250cc bike.

At 73kgs it has the power delivery and engine-braking needed to ensure Agent 007 is well-equipped to stay one step ahead of terrorists in the film.

Caroline Sandiford, director, said everyone at the firm was ‘delighted’ to be involved.

“Our bikes are primarily Trials Competition Machines however they are subjected to rigorous quality controls and are very reliable.

“The production company needed something as with the Bourne film which had a high power output yet was light and easy to manoeuvre but would stand the anticipated usage."

The bikes have been adapted and painted for the purpose of the film, but will be easy to spot for Montesa enthusiasts.

Leading-man Daniel Craig, who plays the fictional agent, will be seen by millions across the world on the Spanish bikes.

Caroline said: “As a family we are massive fans of all of the James Bond movies.

"It's just a shame from my own personal point of view that I couldn't get to meet Daniel Craig himself!”
