| Manslaughter Trial Next Month for bike builder Billy Lane A tentative trial schedule of December 1-12 was set by Judge Meryl Allawas at a pretrial hearing Tuesday afternoon in Florida. The pretrial hearing was expected to have several hours of defense motions delaying the trial even further, challenging blood evidence, but all the motions were cancelled clearing a path for a trial date.
Defense attorney Greg Eisenmenger told Florida Today ” We decided it was probably better tactics for us to raise those issues before the jury during trial, so as to not tip our hand.” The trial is expected to last around two weeks. Lane who is 38 could get up to 15 years in prison if convicted. The state of Florida says that Lane was driving with a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit when a head on collision killed moped rider Gerald Morelock on Labor Day more than two years ago.
