Re: and this is how it should be done

If you post all the training video's on one thread in the New bikers forum, it will keep them all together.

Speaking from experience of looking for info and video's, there's nothing so infuriating as finding stuff in drib's and drab's all over the place

and ............ only you will remember that this video is in a thread entitled "and this is how it should be done".

If you want the search engines to pick up your videos to optimum effect, select your thread title appropriate to the video's content, make the title slightly different to any other (ie; Yourtube) and make sure they are all on the same thread

Re: and this is how it should be done

I cringed every time that plod wandered out towards the white line

I've had way too many cars, vans & HVG's cut bends like that and come onto my side of the road.

I'd also love to know what the hell a "flexible gear" is

No need to move them. Just open up a new thread bilbo and put the URL's in your first post.

Didn't see anything wrong with it myself - that's exactly how I was taught to ride and it works for me. The idea of getting wide on the bends is to give you best possible view, ergo advance warning of oncoming traffic, which is when you 'sacrifice your position' for safety (if you are by the white line).

A 'flexible' gear is one where you can maintain steady acceleration, but have more available should you need it and engine braking if you lift off (ie keeping in the mid rev range)

The only thing I would disagree with is the slowing down without use of brake lights - when you are riding a v-twin, lifting off the throttle has the same effect as throwing an anchor off the back of the bike (any Harley riders will know what I mean), so might be a tad disconcerting for following traffic if you slowed down without a visible warning - ie the brake light. Even if you don't need to apply the brake, just squeeze the lever enough to activate the light - don't forget that the brake light is just as much of a signal of your intentions as a right or left indicator.

Obviously never ridden with a motorcycle cop then huh?

They would rip you to shreds mate on all aspects of your riding and arrive without breaking out in a sweat too. That guys riding was just about perfect from a safety point of view. Don't forget that when riding the middle of the road approaching a left hander you always have the option of pulling inside if needed.

Oh and a flexible gear is one that will cover most aspects of the road youre on without having to change up or down the box - this lets you concentrate on the road ahead more without worrying what gear you should be in. Its 3rd on the BB as this will take me from nearly stopped to well in excess of 100mph and uses the motor torque more than any other gear on the bike.

It doesn't usually apply to smaller bikes.
