Ariel 600cc 1954

Well the offers of projects are like buses, nothing for ages then they all come together, today I’ve been offered a 1954 Ariel 600, complete, but stripped.

I am waiting for a few more details as to the exact model.

It belongs to a work colleague’s dad who bought it stripped it and then left it for 20 years but he assures me nearly all parts are there.

He wants £1500 for it, any thoughts out there.

Re: Ariel 600cc 1954

I'd see what it would be worth when complete and usable before deciding on its value, there must be some in a classic bike mag? I bought a Matchless G12650CSR for £200 in one piece but needs restoring, looking at its value it'll cost me as much as it's value to restore so going to run it around in rough as f' order! What are you planning on doing with it should you buy it and finish it?

too much money for a box of bits that may or may not be any good. like nibo says try to value a complete & running one, then make an offer based on that.

Assurances don't count for much when you're missing that one evasive solenoid which is why it was stripped in the first place. Out of pocket by a fair wedge as well.

Personally I'd batter him down to something more realistic.

this one looks good unrestored: old bikes can be a money pit, like mine and old old cars, bet you'll get loads of expert advice from the club.

May be wrong but square four apart don't think these are major collectables.

Re: Ariel 600cc 1954

I'm interested in a Brit project. Who do I contact?

Having re-read the mails - I should have said, 'if you aren't intersted'

Re: Ariel 600cc 1954

Thanks for the advice, your right I thought a tad dear for what is basically a box of bits.

I was interested in it for a winter project, as I haven’t restored a bike before, done a few cars though.

Think Ill just concentrate on the 750XS for the moment, probably the easier option to start with.
