| Re: What Bikes Have You Had. Ok, here goes. 1979 Yam RD50M. I was 16, it was my first and last new bike and it felt fast (at first) after 11 or 12 years on pushbikes. 1976 Honda CJ250T. Had it for a couple of years – it was off the road more than it was on, but it was my first ‘real’ bike, so I loved it. 1977 Honda CJ250T. This one was immaculate – It’d not been registered until 2 years after it was new in ’77, so it was on a ‘T’ plate. I did more miles on this one. 1974 Honda CB125S. A right little flier – embarrassed a bloke on a Z250 once! Paid £15 for it when the 125 law came in. 1982 Yam XS250. Took this one from 2000 miles and as-new to 30000 plus and absolutely tatered. Loved it to bits – almost literally. 1981 Yam XV1000 (TR1). Smashing bike. Smooth, nice handling, comfy, looked good, quite quick. 1978 Yam XS500. Looked brilliant in black & gold, handled well, never ran right. 1979 Honda CB400N. Never even rode it! 1980 Honda CB100N. Slower than a sedated slug. Horrible. Got me to work though. Bad days. Skint! 1980 Honda CB250N. Rode it once. Enough! 1981 Yam XV1000 (TRI) Not a smashing bike. Nasty handling with square section rear tyre, too much vibration, no top end, not enough torque. Earlier styling, so not good looking either. Never go back? This one wasn't a patch on the first one. 1981 Suzuki GS650GT. Lovely in the turns – embarrassed a muppet on a fireblade – he was all togged up in his little power ranger suit and was going so slow and leaning so far off in the turns that the bike was leaning outwards! I got bored and overtook him on the outside on my 21 year old shaft drive tourer. It died a year later when I nearly did, in a ball of fire whilst writing off the Montego that tried to kill us. To date the only non Yam or Honda that I’ve owned. 1984 Yam XS850G. What a sound! Beautiful – big, majestic, torquey, magnificent. Handled like a tea-trolley though. Loved the triple howly-growl – hence the username. Kind of wish I hadn’t sold it to make way for… 1980 Yam XS650SE. A US import, been a bit more trouble than I bargained for, getting there now though. Nice parallel twin bark, nice and chuckable round town. That’s the current bolide. Next? Hopefully a mid-to-late-nineties Triumph Trident 900. Then I can justify the username again! |

| Re: What Bikes Have You Had. ...Although there has been a new devlopment - someone I know who has a nice XV1000 (TR1) has intimated that it might be for sale! Never go back? Hmmm.... |
