Re: Brake Caliper

when had mine apart: cleaned pistons with white spirit + changed seals now hear others say use brake fluid to lube/clean pistons, applied copper ease rear of pads and pin - now no brake squeal. Best thing changed rubber type hose to braided metal: got an old bike. Had loads of trouble bleeding the system got there eventually by taking off caliper (jamming spanner head to stop pads closing) so it was higher than reservoir, seemed to move trapped air.

Go get yourself some "Gunk" one of the best degreasers out there, halfords & motosave sell it.

Get yourself a toothbrush and attack it with the Gunk.

As for stuck bolts, spray with WD40 and leave for a bit, repeat, then will power, big hammer and a spanner.

Cheers

Re: Brake Caliper

After all the snow, grit, salt, crap etc on the roads, decided to clean the VFR brake calipers yesterday. Front were pretty okay but the rear caliper/piston's were fairly crudded up. Got them cleaned up pretty good and the pistons came out spotless. (I didn't dismantle them, just cleaned them up while still connected so no bleeding required)

I used Holts brake cleaner with a toothbrush and then GT85 which has a solvent, which evaporates, but leaves a coating of dry lubricant.

Sliders were moving very freely so I didn't need to interfere with them

Re: Brake Caliper

Looks a fair advert for gt85 and an old colgate thingy

I did the rear on mine last week, no where near as crapped up. Must say thanks to the CD200's sterling work this winter gone
