Engines that last Hello guys, As you all know some engines have become legendary because of how long they can last without letting you down. Like the Suzuki Bandit 4 Cylinders for instance. That model had been manufactured and rewied so many times by enginers and its been hitting the road so long it has really become a value of realiability. That's exactly the kind of bikes I would like to find for my first purchase (I'm finishing gettting my licence.) I wans just wondering did anyone around here gave a try to the Yamaha FZ6 ? I've asked the guy from the garage and he told me 'not to worry man, that engine has been aroung since 2004 and it seems to be doing just fine'. Are there any FZ6 riders around here that could confirm that ? Thanks a lot for helping me. The day I'll have my licence I invite you all in paris and there will be champagne and strip dancers ![]()

re: Engines that last Although it is probably not the sortof bike you want, my mate had a Honda CG 125 (K-reg), and it did 71,000 miles before the engine went wrong, and it was only the piston rings. And i can say that i know one of the previous owners of the bike, and i have seen his riding, and he rags bikes so hard... And it wasn't standard, it had some tuning...apparently. (Got no evidence to back that up tho.) Rob

re: Engines that last i think you will find that most engines are good now, same with car engines, engines usually only fail through neglect or major abuse, ive never had anything serious that was not really my own fault i had a shattered clutch basket and clutch shaft bearings once, but that im sure was down to wheelies, off the throttle and clutch ![]() few head gaskets and to be honest that may have been down to lack of antifreeze and leaving bikes outside all winter and i did snap a cam chain once on an old suzuki 600 gixxer but that bike did have a hard life

re: Engines that last Just spent 10weeks on a fazer.. which has gone back today.. (ended up having petrol for breakfast but thats another story).. I have posted my thoughts on the fazer before, but intend to write and post a more full review over the weekend... If you can't wait that long then in short the bike is fine.. That said I have now got a 99 bandit for communting and I prefer the bandit, tho it is slower and 9 years older!!

Re: Engines that last Many years ago i was a courier, I rode a Honda CX500, the couriers choice as it were. When I sold it there was 149,000 miles on the clock, I know there were many more than this in reality, but that's what the clock said. The engine had only been out of the frame once, and that was when I replaced the stator as one of the magnets had dislodged itself. Not the fastest bike I had, definately not the most attractive either, but for comfort and longevity, I coudn't have wished for a better machine. SteveT
